چکیده

A new musculoskeltal simulation primitive, the strand, can provide an efficient way of simulating complicated muscle fiber architectures [1]. In this paper we present a new fiber tracking algorithm based on an energy minimizing active curve that is well suited for building these strand type models from diffusion tensor imaging data. We present fiber tracking results for the Brachioradialis muscle in the left forearm of a male subject. The algorithm produces a space filling arrangement of fibers that are uniformly distributed throughout the muscle and aligned with the underlying muscle fiber direction.

Generalized Diffusion Simulation-Based Tractography

Diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) techniques have been used to study human brain white matter fiber structures in vivo. Commonly used standard diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DTI) tractography derived from the second order diffusion tensor model has limitations in its ability to resolve complex fiber tracts. We propose a new fiber tracking method based on the generalized diffusion t...

Performance of unscented Kalman filter tractography in edema: Analysis of the two-tensor model

Diffusion MRI tractography is increasingly used in pre-operative neurosurgical planning to visualize critical fiber tracts. However, a major challenge for conventional tractography, especially in patients with brain tumors, is tracing fiber tracts that are affected by vasogenic edema, which increases water content in the tissue and lowers diffusion anisotropy. One strategy for improving fiber t...

Automatic extraction of the cingulum bundle in diffusion tensor tract-specific analysis: feasibility study in Parkinson's disease with and without dementia.

PURPOSE Tract-specific analysis (TSA) measures diffusion parameters along a specific fiber that has been extracted by fiber tracking using manual regions of interest (ROIs), but TSA is limited by its requirement for manual operation, poor reproducibility, and high time consumption. We aimed to develop a fully automated extraction method for the cingulum bundle (CB) and to apply the method to TS...

MR diffusion tensor imaging and fiber tracking in inflammatory diseases of the spinal cord.

PURPOSE Our aim was to study the fractional anisotropy (FA) variations and the fiber tracking (FT) patterns observed in patients with myelitis. MATERIAL AND METHODS Fifteen patients with symptomatic myelitis and 11 healthy subjects were prospectively selected. We performed T2-weighted and diffusion tensor imaging on a 1.5T MR scanner. FA and apparent diffusion coefficient maps were computed i...

Flow-based fiber tracking with diffusion tensor and q-ball data: validation and comparison to principal diffusion direction techniques.

In this study, we evaluate the performance of a flow-based surface evolution fiber tracking algorithm by means of a physical anisotropic diffusion phantom with known connectivity. We introduce a novel speed function for surface evolution that is derived from either diffusion tensor (DT) data, high angular resolution diffusion (HARD) data, or a combined DT-HARD hybrid approach. We use the model-...
